Lambda Cloud centers on Linux GPU VMs and multi-node 1-Click Clusters. One instance fits notebooks, fine-tuning, and prototype inference. Clusters can use Kubernetes or Slurm for distributed training and larger serving systems.
This Lambda is the GPU company, not AWS Lambda. It provides compute and preconfigured platforms, not an automatic “upload a model and get an autoscaling API” product.
VM simplicity can hide state
On-Demand Cloud provides an SSH- and Jupyter-ready GPU VM. Research iteration is fast, but manual packages, notebook mutations, and checkpoints left on root disks are not reproducible. Pin environments with OCI images or lockfiles, bootstrap through scripts or IaC, and sync data and checkpoints to durable storage.
Understand stop, termination, and storage lifecycles before shutting down. Do not assume data survives. Scope API, SSH, and cloud credentials by environment with least privilege and avoid exposing Jupyter directly to the public internet.
Cluster bottlenecks exceed single-GPU FLOPS
1-Click Clusters provide multiple GPU nodes. Benchmark framework-level all-reduce, dataset reads, checkpoint write and restore, and node-failure recovery. When utilization is low, inspect data loading, CPU/RAM, network topology, and storage before adding GPUs.
Managed Kubernetes includes GPU and network operators, InfiniBand/RDMA, and shared storage support. Slurm fits queue-oriented batch and HPC. Choose by workloads and operating skill rather than turning one-off training into persistent microservices for ecosystem fashion.
Comparing GPU clouds
Lambda Cloud fits teams wanting direct VMs or clusters and able to own Linux, training, or serving stacks. Compare CoreWeave or Nebius for broader Kubernetes platforms, RunPod for scattered experimental capacity, and Replicate for model APIs.
Validate regional hardware capacity, reservations, interconnect, shared storage, egress, support, and quotas. Run the same container, dataset shard, and checkpoint end to end. Compare cost per useful training step or thousand successful inferences, not the listed GPU-hour alone.
