Champorcher: Streamside Bouldering in the Lower Aosta Valley, With the 8B+ Ghost Ship Right by the Car | Italy Climbing Crags

A bouldering area at about 1,200–1,400 m in the Champorcher valley, lower Aosta Valley, spread along a stream and through fir woods in Val de la Legne. The databases list 100 to 163 problems, mostly 6B to 7B, with a top end of 8B+ and beyond. It faces north-east: best in spring and autumn, and climbable on summer evenings and snow-free winter mornings; in winter the law requires chains or snow tyres on the drive up. By car it is about 12 km up from Hône, with parking right in front of the Ghost Ship boulder. The Aosta–Ivrea railway is closed until 2027, so without a car you rely on the valley bus.

Corma di Machaby / Arnad: Low-Altitude Gneiss Slab Multi-Pitch and One of North-West Italy's Oldest Sport Crags | Italy Climbing Crags

A big gneiss wall next to Arnad in the lower Aosta Valley. The Paretone has over 40 bolted multi-pitch routes, averaging 200 m and graded 5c to 7a, mostly friction slab and small pockets; next door, Gruviera has 34 single pitches, all re-equipped with stainless steel according to the tourist board. At about 350–560 m, the tourist board recommends April to October and says high summer is too hot; spring and autumn are best. It is close to the motorway exit, with parking below the wall. The Aosta–Ivrea railway is closed until 2027, so without a car you rely on buses.

Monte Bianco, Italian Side (Courmayeur): Granite Towers From the Skyway at 3,466 m, and Val Ferret's Cirques | Italy Climbing Crags

Mont Blanc granite above Courmayeur. The Skyway cable car takes you to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 m, and from there you cross the glacier to the Tacul satellites such as Grand Capucin and Pic Adolphe Rey: routes of 200–600 m, mostly 6a and up. On the Val Ferret side you walk two hours or more from the valley floor into the cirques. This is not a normal crag: you need glacier travel and crevasse rescue skills, or a mountain guide. The season follows the cable car: the Skyway reopened on 23 May 2026 and is closed from 16 November to 4 December (checked October 2026). The Aosta–Ivrea railway is shut, so public transport means buses.
