Erto: The Yellow Overhang by the Vajont Dam | Italy Climbing Crags

Erto is a huge yellow limestone overhang beside the Vajont dam, listed at 188–300 routes depending on the source. The Big sector is famous for 7a–8c+ stamina routes on very polished holds; the No Big sector to its right has 3b–7b vertical and slabby routes for beginners and intermediates. The overhang keeps off the rain, so it works on wet days and sunny winter days; in summer you can only climb in the evening. Take the train to Longarone and TPL FVG bus P69, which runs rarely; most people drive.

Val Rosandra: Trieste's Karst Winter Crag Where Comici Started | Italy Climbing Crags

Val Rosandra is a karst canyon on the edge of Trieste, right on the Slovenian border: twenty-odd scattered limestone crags, 541 routes on theCrag from easy up to 8b, mostly vertical crimping, plus multi-pitch and teaching walls from Comici's era. The south-facing side is a sunny-winter-day crag and too hot in summer; the valley is a nature reserve, so stay on marked paths and wear a helmet. Trieste Trasporti bus 40 gets you from the city to Bagnoli in about half an hour. The nearby sea-view crag Napoleonica is covered too.
