A limestone sport-climbing valley inland from Albenga, also known as Oltrefinale. The local association RocPennavaire lists 61 crags and its guidebook covers about 2,700 routes, mostly steep, tufa-laden stamina climbing with newer bolts than Finale. In winter, climb the south-facing walls on the north bank: Terminal, Telematica, Bauso, the Euskal group. The shady south-bank crags (Emisfero, Erboristeria, Cineplex) sit inside a permanent climbing-ban zone set by the Province of Savona in 2000; in 2021 the regional administrative court struck down a trial reopening, and no later decision to reopen could be found. Without a car it is hard: TPL Linea bus 76 runs three times a day on weekdays and not at all on public holidays.
Bouldering in the hills behind Varazze, a seaside town in Liguria, at roughly 300–1000 m on metamorphic rock that is mostly serpentinite. Sites list about 1,040–1,180 problems, most of them intermediate and advanced. The main area, Potala, holds Gioia, first climbed by Christian Core in 2008 and called the world's first 8C+. The season runs September to May; summer is hot and has ticks. Potala is on private land, and the owners allow climbing as long as nothing is damaged. Without a car, take the train to Varazze and TPL Linea bus 22 up to Pero and Alpicella, but there are only about three useful runs on weekdays and one on holidays.
Limestone sport climbing around Finale Ligure on the Ligurian coast. Finale Outdoor Region counts more than 200 sectors and over 4,000 routes; theCrag lists 4,353. Climbable year-round if you pick the aspect, best in spring and autumn. Raptor-nesting bans close some crags from 1 January to 31 July and others all year. Trains stop at Finale Ligure Marina; the mountain roads are narrow, and parking and sleeping in vehicles are banned along most of them.
Sea-cliff limestone above Porto Venere in La Spezia province, at the eastern end of Liguria. Sites list anywhere from 83 to 540 routes, mostly sport, with multi-pitch routes mostly 2–3 pitches long. The walls face west to south-west: autumn and spring are best, winter works, summer is hot. The most popular wall, Parete Centrale, was closed by the town in 2014; the park website still shows the ban, while climbers report it was being climbed again in 2025. Check before you go.
