用英文報告進度、說自己卡住、請同事幫忙：工作上的十句話

🌏 English version

英文口說練習區的「工作」情境原本只有兩句。這篇補上十句，範圍是軟體工程師在站立會議和日常協作裡會反覆做的四件事。這次的句子不是從某一段真實對話改出來的，是我先列出想說的中文，再逐句找字典依據。

我當時想說什麼

對象是同事或主管，場合是站立會議、訊息或走到座位旁邊問。想做的事有四種：

  • 報告進度：昨天做完什麼、還在等什麼、什麼時候可以完成
  • 說明卡在哪裡：卡在哪一步、重現不出問題
  • 請人幫忙：看一下 PR、說明某一段怎麼運作
  • 提出不同意見與估時間：對做法有疑慮、大概要幾天、要先確認什麼

Atlassian 介紹站立會議時列的三個問題剛好對應前兩種：What did I work on yesterday? What am I working on today? What issues are blocking me?（Stand-ups for agile teams）。這個來源說明的是會議要講哪些內容，不是英文怎麼說。

在這個情境可以怎麼說

以下每一句都是依字典句型改寫的，不是字典原句。

一、報告進度

想說的意思這個情境可用的說法
我昨天把登入流程修好了。I fixed the login flow yesterday.
我還在等後端的 API。I'm still waiting for the backend API.
這個今天下班前可以完成。I can finish this by the end of the day.

fix：Oxford 的定義是修理或修正某個東西，例句有 I've fixed the problem 和 find and fix the bug（fix）。句子裡有 yesterday，所以用過去式 fixed。

still waiting for：Oxford 的 wait 有例句 I'm still waiting for the results of my blood test（wait）。把等的對象換成 the backend API 就是第二句。

by：Oxford 的定義是「不晚於提到的時間」，例句 Can you finish the work by five o'clock?、I'll have it done by tomorrow（by）。「下班前」我用 by the end of the day，重點是在那個時間點之前完成。

二、說明卡在哪裡

想說的意思這個情境可用的說法
我卡在權限設定這一步。I'm stuck on the permission settings.
我在本機重現不出這個問題。I can't reproduce the issue locally.

stuck on：Oxford 列出 stuck (on something)，意思是無法回答或理解某件事，例句 I got stuck on the first question（stuck）。

reproduce：Oxford 字典的 reproduce 只收「複製」這類意思，沒有軟體問題的用法。這個用法的依據來自 Mozilla 的錯誤回報指引，裡面寫 steps to reproduce a bug、If you can't reproduce the problem（Bug Writing Guidelines）。locally 指在自己的機器上，GitHub 文件的標題就是 Checking out pull requests locally（GitHub Docs）。這兩個是技術文件，支持的是術語，不是口語的常見程度。

三、請人幫忙

想說的意思這個情境可用的說法
你有空可以幫我看一下這個 PR 嗎？Could you take a look at this PR when you have a moment?
你可以跟我說明一下這段是怎麼運作的嗎？Could you walk me through how this part works?

Could you：Oxford 的說明是用來禮貌地請別人幫你做某件事，例句 Could you babysit for us on Friday?（could）。

take a look at：Oxford 的 look 名詞有 Take a look at these figures!（look）。

when you have a moment：Oxford 的 moment 有一句幾乎一樣的請求：Could you look through this report when you have a spare moment?（moment）。這是十句裡最接近字典原句的一句。

walk someone through：Cambridge 的定義是慢慢地、仔細地向某人解釋某件事，或示範怎麼做，例句 He'll walk you through the procedure（walk someone through something）。這一頁我只讀到這個詞條的片段，沒有讀完整頁。

四、提出不同意見與估時間

想說的意思這個情境可用的說法
我不太確定這個做法，我們可以先試小一點的範圍嗎？I'm not sure about this approach. Could we try it on a smaller scale first?
這個大概需要兩到三天。This will probably take two to three days.
我需要先確認需求，再給你時間估計。I need to confirm the requirements before I give you an estimate.

not sure about：Oxford 列出 sure about something，例句 Are you sure about that?、I'm not so sure about that one（sure）。先說自己不確定，再提議，比直接說對方錯了緩和。這是我對語氣的判斷，字典只支持句型。

Could we… on a smaller scale：Oxford 的 could 有 Could we stop by next week?；scale 有 on a small scale（scale）。

take + 時間：Oxford 說 take 用來講做某件事需要的時間，後面一定要有時間，例句 That should only take you ten minutes（take）。probably 表示很可能，例句 It'll probably be OK（probably）。

an estimate：Oxford 的名詞例句是 I can give you a rough estimate of the amount of wood you will need（estimate）。before 當連接詞時後面接句子，例句 Do it before you forget（before）。requirements 通常用複數，例句 a software solution to meet your requirements（requirement）。

英文對誰／做什麼時用是否仍是同一個意思
I fixed the login flow yesterday.報告昨天做完的事主要說法
I've fixed the login flow.沒有提時間，重點是現在已經修好了是，但不能再加 yesterday
I'm stuck on the permission settings.說自己卡在哪裡主要說法
The permission settings are blocking me.站立會議上回答「什麼擋住我」是，主詞換成擋住你的東西；依 Atlassian 的 What issues are blocking me? 改寫
I can't reproduce the issue locally.在自己機器上完全重現不出來主要說法
I can only reproduce the issue occasionally.有時候可以重現不同：問題存在，只是不穩定
This will probably take two to three days.給一個大概的時間主要說法
I can give you a rough estimate now.還沒確認需求，先給粗估不同：是在提議先給數字

換內容再說一次

先看中文，自己說一次，再看參考說法。

  1. 我上週把付款流程修好了。
    • I fixed the payment flow last week.
  2. 我還在等測試結果。
    • I'm still waiting for the test results.
  3. 這個明天之前可以完成。
    • I can finish this by tomorrow.
  4. 我卡在部署這一步。
    • I'm stuck on the deployment step.
  5. 你有空可以幫我看一下這份文件嗎？
    • Could you take a look at this doc when you have a moment?
  6. 這個大概需要一週左右。
    • This will probably take about a week.

以下是自己寫的練習示例，不是真實對話。

A: Any updates?

B: I fixed the login flow yesterday. Today I'm working on the permissions, but I'm stuck on the permission settings.

A: What's blocking you?

B: I can't reproduce the issue locally. Could you walk me through how this part works?

A: Sure, after this meeting. How long will the rest take?

B: It will probably take two to three days. I need to confirm the requirements before I give you an estimate.

不看英文，你會怎麼說

自評的標準是能不能把意思說出來，不是字有沒有完全一樣。

仍待核對

這些還沒找到合適來源，先不放進練習：

  • I'm blocked on … 這個說法：Atlassian 的頁面有 blocking me 和 where they're blocked，沒有 blocked on
  • 「下班前」說 by the end of the day 還是 by end of day、by EOD：沒有查職場用語的來源
  • 哪一句比較常用：這需要語料庫查詢，這次沒有做

整體來說

十句裡，by（期限）、stuck on、take + 時間這三個最值得先練，因為每天都會用到，而且中文直翻容易錯。來源幾乎都是學習字典，支持的是字義與句型；只有 Atlassian 一頁說明站立會議的內容。沒有母語者測試，也沒有頻率比較，所以文中只寫「這個情境可用」。
